“Come On With The Rain, I’ve a Smile on My Face!”

*Sophia Petrillo voice* Picture it, August 2024, I’m scrolling Pinterest and see a single pin with an umbrella made out of flowers. I think “I can do that, now how do I make it happen?” It didn’t take long for me to decide I wanted to organize a photo shoot designed around one of my favorite movies of all time, “Singing In The Rain” (Now that I’m typing this I realize I didn’t actually make that umbrella made of flowers, maybe another time!)

It would have been easy to design this shoot around the colors of the original movie poster, yellow, red and blue, however those colors don’t really scream beautiful or romantic. I wish I could say I chose to center the design around the dream ballet sequence because of it’s beauty and elegance but I really chose it because I’ve seen Barbie over 10 times and I think about the “I’m Just Ken” sequence often! Once the colors were nailed down it all started to click!

I loved having this opportunity to show clients that there are ways to have a beautiful and fully decorated wedding while being unique and authentic. Gone are the days of the traditional signage, you can replace a “Welcome To Our Wedding” sign with a custom Playbill with your names and wedding date, swap the “Our Favorite People” sign for a popcorn bucket with your guests names on it! My favorite unique sign that was made for this shoot was the “Quiet On Set” sign asking guests to put away their phones during the ceremony. It perfectly ties in the movie theme while replacing the sometimes confusing “Unplugged Ceremony” verbiage.

Another fabulous avenue this shoot explored was how to fill a reception table without going overboard or over budget. Tiny lampposts and American Girl doll umbrellas instantly make you think of Gene Kelly splashing around in the rain and singing about how ready he is for love!
